Northfield man cited for animal cruelty

NORTHFIELD A 22-year-old Northfield Falls man has been cited for animal cruelty for allegedly killing and injuring Peking ducks that a Davis Avenue resident kept as pets, the Northfield Police Department has announced.

Jeffrey Pemberton, who also was cited for unlawful mischief, is scheduled to answer to the charges on April 15 in Vermont District Court in Barre.

The duck owner called police and reported that one duck had gone missing and two others had been injured, and during an investigation, Pemberton admitted to killing and injuring the ducks, police said. He also admitted to cutting a power cord to a lamp at the ducks enclosure, police said.
