Woman cited in killing of neighbor's pet bird

Free Press Staff Report

RYEGATE -- A woman who said she only was trying to quiet a neighbor's bird has been cited for animal cruelty after the pet was found dead.

Police cited Rhonda Hatch for the cruelty charge and burglary after she allegedly entered the apartment of Bonnie Evans in Wells River.

Hatch, 61, told police she entered the home while Evans was out for a walk intending only to scare the bird to quiet it down. When Evans returned, she found her pet bird dead on the floor.

Hatch is scheduled to appear July 22 in Vermont District Court in Chelsea.
